Stop body shaming

We have all gotten a glimpse of ourselves and thought, “I got to lose some weight!” Or thought that as a ‘good’ friend we should let that one person know how they have ‘let themselves go’ since the last time we met up. Sadly, these innocent acts can be classified as body shaming.  Some say fat-shaming, skinny-shaming, height-shaming… The fact is - no one should ever be criticized for their appearance by the eyes of an outsider, or even themselves while holding the other’s yardstick for ‘good appearance’. To our detriment, too many people strive to look like a supermodel.

Most girls already grow up with the idea of either looking like an hourglass or a ruler. It is parents and role models who hold the greatest influence as they serve as the epitome of successful members of adulthood. So obviously, if you wrap plastic or mylar around your stomach and subconsciously pop a sliming pills after every meal, your children will end up doing the same. Not only your daughter but your children, as boys are also affected. Society has a reputation for sweeping such heartbreaking truths under the carpet.

Thanks to stereotypes, terms such as lazy, greedy, and unattractive are automatically equated with obesity. For example, a study conveys that in 64% of Disney movies, most villains are portrayed cruel and evil overweight characters. Put simply, if you’re fat, you’re probably evil and cruel too.

Sadly, diseases and disorders arise from obsessing too much about one's weight, such as Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. These disorders occur more frequently in women in comparison to men as women are more susceptible to influence by the media.

Billie Eilish is an American, 18-year-old singer that makes more money in a week than we make in 5 years. Yet, she still drowns herself in clothes 10 times bigger than her normal size. While other celebrities like Kelly Clarkson, Sasha Pieterse, Melissa McCarthy have just accepted their flaws and embraced their shape.

WE are part of this problem and we don't even know it. We are an end to this cycle.

Stop trying to look like someone else, EMBRACE YOUR SHAPE!!
